The illustration shows a figure standing at the edge of a cliff overlooking a sprawling futuristic city nestled deep in a Pacific Northwest forest. That figure is me, Mark Boehly. The city in the distance is not a real place. It is the universe where my biomechanical illustration work lives. Every mechanical creature I have ever drawn, every study of organic forms fused with industrial anatomy, has a home somewhere in that city.
I became an Eagle Scout in 2003 and have spent most of my life outdoors. Growing up in Oregon shaped the visual language I return to constantly. Trees, mountains, layered terrain, the texture of bark and rock and undergrowth. Those elements show up across client work and personal work alike because they are simply part of how I see. Getting into the fine details, the texture, the light moving through a forest, is where the work feels most alive.
The Journey to Valhalla illustration brings all of that together in one frame. Client work has a slot in that city. Personal creatures live there too. The whole biomechanical universe I have been building illustration by illustration since before Graphicsbyte existed has a home in that landscape. The homepage was always meant to be a window into that world before visitors saw a single case study or service page.
