A 2024 Milestone That’s Both Professional and Personal
It is always a profound honor to have my work selected for publication in a LogoLounge book. This year, I am thrilled to announce that for the third time, my work has been published in the LogoLounge book series, earning a place in the newly released LogoLounge Book 14.
This achievement marks a significant milestone, but what makes this particular honor so special is the story behind the design. The logo the international jury selected wasn’t for a client project. It was the monogram I designed for my own wedding.
The Story Behind the Mark: A Monogram for Mark & Ana
On August 25, 2023, I married my best friend, Ana. As we planned our wedding, we wanted a personal crest to represent the start of our new family. Our last name, Boehly, doesn’t have an official family crest, so I decided to create something new for us: a custom monogram built around our first initials.
The design is a direct reflection of our story:
The “M” for Mark: The outer strokes of the M are designed as double lines, resembling the iconic pillars of Greece—the place where I proposed.
The “A” for Ana: The inside of the design forms the clear archway of the letter A.
The “MA” Union: When placed together, the letters form a single, inseparable “MA” emblem, representing our union.
Then, to create the full crest for our wedding, we added our theme:
Decorative Elements: A delicate flower icon was placed below the monogram for a touch of elegance.
Wedding Colors: The entire emblem was then set within a dark green circle, framed by a rose gold border to perfectly represent our wedding’s color palette.
The Power of Simplicity: The Winning Version
For our wedding, this monogram was part of a larger crest, adorned with a small flower and set in our wedding colors. It was perfect for our invitations.
However, for the LogoLounge submission, I presented the core “MA” emblem in its purest form. This is the version the judges selected, and I completely understand why. When a mark is distilled down to its essential elements, its strength, balance, and story can shine through with absolute clarity.
To see how this single, meaningful emblem was expanded into a complete brand experience for our wedding, you can explore the full case study.
